Plans to enable people to use their mobiles on the London tube has been scrapped, because of the high cost of the equipment needed in some of the deep level tube lines. An initial tender in 2007 for a 6 month trial on the Waterloo and City line was deemed not to be commercially viable even though three proposals were received.

However O2 is currently believed to still be in discussions with Transport For London as they already provide a similar service on the Glasgow Subway.
