Quicker to walk - Embankment to Charing Cross

Written On 8/5/2009 by IB

If you are travelling on the District Line and are planning to catch a train from Charing Cross you will probably find that when you get to Embankment station its easier to leave the station and walk the short distance along the street to Charing Cross rather than spend time negotiating the tunnels to change to either the Northern or Bakerloo lines for the 1 minute journey. Especially if unless you are very lucky and a train arrives immediately its easy to spend 5-10 minutes changing tube lines, when its easy to walk between the stations in 2-3 minutes even if you are very unfit as the distance is only 200m or so.

Its easy, and almost impossible to get lost. Simply leave the ticket barriers at Embankment, turn left and leave the station and keep walking. You will pass a Starbucks Coffee shop on your left hand side as you walk up Villiers St. Keep walking but be aware that cars do drive slowly up this road, even thought it looks like it is completely pedestrianised, and as you almost reach the top of the street to your left will be a set of stairs that will take you up into Charing Cross. If the stairs look like they are too much as they are quite steep, then simply keep walking to the top of the street, turn left and ahead of you will be the front main entrance to the station. Simple.
